8.4. Configuring Windows 95 as a Node on a FreeBSD LAN

This is a separate document.

8.4.1. Create the Windows 95 hosts file

In order to connect to the other TCP/IP systems on the LAN, a hosts file similar to the FreeBSD system /etc/hosts needs to be created. The IP addressing and alias names used for the hosts need to be the same on all systems on the LAN.

In Win95, there is a sample hosts file c:\windows\hosts.sam) which can be edited and saved with the correct filename c:\windows\hosts.

Click the Start button, select Run... and then enter the following and then click OK:

c:\windows\notepad c:\windows\hosts.sam
